Purchased the Panasonic DMP-BDT220 Blue-Ray DVD player March 2012 when my old player died. I don't have a 3D television so I can't comment on that feature of this unit. However, I can say that this unit works MUCH faster in opening the DVD drawer and starting movies! My last player was very slow in this regard, and it was a top-of-the line 3 year old Panasonic model. The other great feature of this unit is that it can connect to your internet via cable OR home wireless network, which was very easy to set up, and will stream Netflix, YouTube videos and other content directly to the TV. I have a first generation ROKU box, but it does not allow for streaming YouTube, and its Netflix does not allow for subtitles, but this DVD player can do both. The remote has dedicated INTERNET,NETFLIX, and Skype. On a sidenote, my stereo is an older unit and has no HDMI inputs, but this DVD player comes with an "OPTICAL" output which my old stereo can use. Many of the cheaper DVD Blue-Ray players don't have an OPTICAL output, just HDMI and perhaps RCA audio outs. Overall, I am very pleased with this unit. ~ By Sherry Guillory
I purchased this not only to watch movies but not have to wire it to stream video content. I set this up to use as DLNA viewer. Worked well. Week after I have had it it loses connection to wifi. Sits there forever to try and connect. I do everything under the sun to make it work. Now I run a server from my house, have 2 wifi phones and a wifi printer hooked up as well as this laptop I am typing on wireless. No matter what I did player would not connect. Only thing that solves it is to un-plug it and plug it back in. 3 days in a row I try and watch a movie at night once my son goes to bed and nothing. I have to un-plug it and plug it back in. Cycling the power is not enough. This thing is getting returned :(
I will say that when it works it works great. But unplugging once a day is not acceptable.
Menus are also a little laggy when doing internet stuff. Outside of that it is fine. Plays DvD's just fine. ~ By Abadus
My second ps3 broke, so i needed a blu ray player replacement. Had this guy for almost a week. Set up was a snap, it needed a firmware update right out of the box. Netflix playback is great, buffering is very quick and quality adjusts depending on bandwidth, hulu runs great, i wish we had HBO go.
blu ray quality is amazing, boot up time for blu ray discs is very quick compared to other players i have seen. DVD quality is pretty good too.
So far solid wifi connection, very happy this replaced my ps3, i won't invest in another unreliable Sony machine. I will update my review as i put this machine through the paces. ~ By G "GA" (San Diego)
